The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is having Early Response Training classes on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Grace Avenue UMC. The Basic Class will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be two Advanced classes — the morning session is from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the afternoon session is from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration ends on February 15, 2017.
BASIC CLASS (8 hours)
Early Response Teams (ERTs) fill a specific need in the early days after a disaster to clean out flood-damaged homes, remove debris, place tarps on homes, and otherwise prevent further damage, while providing a caring Christian presence. Lunch will be provided at no cost to the attendees by the hosting church.
ADVANCED CLASSES FOR RECERTIFICATION (4 hours total)
This will re-qualify you to serve on your local church or district Early Response Team.
Prerequisite: Basic ERT class. The following 2 modules will be offered. Both must be attended for recertification.
Cleaning Out Flooded Homes (ERT200CO), more commonly referred to as “mucking out”: participants will learn about current best practices and safety procedures for cleaning out, stabilizing and sanitizing water damaged homes. (2 hours)
Wildfire (ERT200F): participants will learn how to help homeowners sort through the remains of the burned out property and find what might be salvaged before the slab is scraped clean. (2 hours)
All participants must be certified MinistrySafe compliant in order to serve in this ministry. Proof of this will be required before you will receive an UMCOR badge.
