ERT Training

Two classes will be offered. One is the Basic class and the others are for recertification.

Basic Class

This will be all day. Lunch will be provided at no cost to the attendees by the hosting church.

Advanced Class - For Recertification

This class will re-qualify you to serve on your local church or district Early Response Team. A prerequisite for the Advanced class is the Basic ERT class.

Three options are provided.

  1. All day. If you choose to attend all day, you will get all four Advanced UMCOR classes. Lunch will be provided at no cost to the attendees by the hosting church.
  2. Morning only. If you choose to attend only the morning session, you will be taking these two classes:
    • ERT200 OSM - On-site Management, will give a volunteer the tools to help establish a temporary response center at a local church (or other facility as designated by the community) for the purpose of coordinating the work of the ERT’s and thus bringing the response quickly to a community.
    • ERT200TL - Team Leadership , will explore more of what that function involves. This class is applicable to the assistant team leader as well.
  3. Afternoon only. If you choose to only attend the afternoon session, then you will be taking these two classes:
    • ERT200COParticipants in this class, Cleaning Out Flooded Homes, more commonly referred to as “mucking out”, will learn about current best practices and safety procedures for cleaning out, stabilizing and sanitizing water damaged homes.
    • ERT200SAParticipants in this class, Site Assessment, will learn how to assess the physical damage to a disaster-affected residence in order to plan and prepare for the Early Response Team to safely access and secure the property from further damage.

Background Checks

An advance background check is required for all participants.

What to do if you already have one:

If you have a current background check on file at your local church, then you don't need another one. Please have your admin fill the UMCOR Background Check Form and bring it with you to the training.

UMCOR BACKGROUND CHECK FORM

If you do NOT have one:

If you don't have a current background check, then please contact the person who handles them in your church and they will give you instructions on how to use Ministry Safe, run a background check on you and send you the link to Ministry Safe certification.

For more information, go to http://ntcleadership.org/children/ministry-safe.

For proof this has been done, fill out the UMCOR Background Check Form and bring it with you to the training.
