Mission Trips

United Methodist Volunteers in MissionThe Center for Missional Outreach encourages all North Texas Conference churches to work with United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) to plan and organize their mission trips. This organization exists to help you with insurance, training, and location possibilities.

The purpose of UMVIM is to enable the participation of United Methodists throughout the world in global mission volunteer programs so that affirming, empowering and trusting relationships are established.

To learn more about UMVIM and what we are doing here in the North Texas Conference, please contact the Center for Missional Outreach at missions@ntcumc.org or call 972-526-5000, 800-969-8201.

Finding a Mission Trip Site

List of US domestic locationsTo see a complete list of US domestic locations, go to www.missionvolunteers.org and click on "US Project List". This 45 page document lists projects by state. For international trip information, call our office and we can help you to connect through UMVIM with almost any country.

Training

Hands on globe
Many mission sites are now asking for proof of team leader training. If you need to learn how to lead a mission trip or become a certified team leader, please attend one of our bi-annual trainings. Look on our events page for information.

Insurance

We get lots of questions about insurance for mission teams. If you are going to an UMVIM site, then you can purchase insurance from them by going to www.missionvolunteers.org.

Teams going to foreign destinations may purchase accident and medical insurance from Gallagher Charitable International Insurance Services at a rate of $3.30 per day. Groups are responsible for requiring all volunteers to carry this insurance. CLICK HERE for the policy and enrollment form. This insurance differs from the GBGM insurance because it covers medical expenses for illness, whereas the GBGM insurance only covers accidents.

International Mission Team Insurance

Many churches don't know that the North Texas Conference has special coverage for international mission teams built into our policy. This coverage is available at no additional cost to your team. This insurance covers not only mission teams but choir tours and any other kind of international trip your church members might be planning.

The team leader needs to fill out a simple form and mail it in advance to our insurance account executive, Linda Ginn.

For more information, contact Marji Bishir at the Ministry Center or Linda Ginn, Senior Commercial Account Manager, MHBT Inc, at 972-770-1420.
