(muh-lair-ee-uh)
noun

1. An infectious disease characterized by cycles of chills, fever, and sweating, caused by a protozoan of the genus Plasmodium in red blood cells, which is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female anopheles mosquito. www.thefreedictionary.com, n.d. 09/06/2011

Malaria is a deadly disease, but it’s preventable and curable. WHO (World Health Organization) estimates roughly 3.3 billion people (that’s half of the world’s population) are at risk of malaria, leading to nearly one million deaths each year. Who are the most vulnerable? People in our poorest countries, infants and children, pregnant women, unborn children of infected mothers, PEOPLE OF ALL AGES. In Africa, one in five childhood deaths are attributed to malaria, with a child dying every 30 seconds
