Every 60 seconds, malaria claims a life in Africa. Does that sounds a little different than what you’ve heard before? It should because it is different. But a little different to us is a huge difference to families in Africa.

Imagine No Malaria is pleased to announce significant update in the ongoing fight against malaria. Based on the recent 2011 World Malaria Report, issued by the World Health Organization, citing a declining death rate, malaria’s toll has been reduced to an estimated 655,000 deaths annually – down from one million just three years ago.

While that is still a tragic statistic, it is evidence of how, every day, your support for Imagine No Malaria advocacy and fundraising efforts help bring us closer to a world without malaria. For proof, look no further than the dramatically declining death toll from malaria.

2010: Malaria kills a child every 30 seconds | Imagine No Malaria officially launches as a healing ministry

2011: Malaria’s toll declines to a death every 45 seconds | Funds donated to Imagine No Malaria help train thousands of community health workers to deliver more than 400,000 mosquito nets in places like Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.

2012: Malaria’s mortality rate is again reduced, claiming a life every 60 seconds | Imagine No Malaria funds are awarded to support in-country malaria programs throughout Africa

In two short years since Imagine No Malaria’s inception, you have helped cut malaria’s impact IN HALF!

Rev. Troy Sims of FUMC Wichita Falls reports that their Vacation Bible School raised $567.46 for Imagine No Malaria. That will save 56 lives! Great job kids!

The 4th & 5th Grade "Service Squad" of Flower Mound UMC spent the VBS week serving neighbors both near and far.

Throughout the week they visited residents at a nursing home, prepared and delivered meals for a summer lunch program, and volunteered at a local food pantry/service agency.

On Thursday, they held a car wash to raise funds for Imagine No Malaria. In less than two hours, they raised $534.84 to help stamp out malaria!

Thanks FMUMC Service Squad for being the hands and feet of Christ!

     

Chapel Hill UMC had a booth with volunteers who sold "Imagine No Malaria" water bottles on July 3 at the Farmers Branch Fireworks Celebration.

Proceeds benefit the Imagine No Malaria initiative of the United Methodist Church. The total raised was $574.00, which will help to eradicate deaths from malaria. $10 will save a life, so Chapel Hill has saved 57 lives!

Conference Colleagues:

At our recent District Conference Eston Williams, East District Imagine No Malaria Coordinator, issued a challenge to all churches in the East District to bring $1 for each member to opening worship Sunday night of Annual Conference for the offering. Within only a few days we have received pledges from 33 churches plus the Lay Speaker group for a total of $5,259 so far toward our “membership” goal of $12,979.

Now we want to broaden the challenge to include all churches in the conference. Will you accept the challenge? If EVERY CHURCH IN THE NORTH TEXAS CONFERENCE BROUGHT $1 PER MEMBER TO THE OFFERING WE WOULD COLLECT $156,284!!!

Rev. Edgar Bazan of Oak Cliff UMC along with other church members will be running the White Rock Marathon in Dallas this December 5th 2010. A wonderful gesture and you also can help the cause in more than one way.

One avenue for you to contribute is by pledging per mile run (26 miles total). If you want to be part of the running team please register first at the Dallas White Rock Marathon website. Please register on this webpage under the Oak Cliff United Methodist Church Team. Choose to run whatever distance you want. With God’s help and your collaboration in God’s Kingdom we will overcome this killer disease!
